A summary of applicable law and summary of the big outstanding questions. While legal in nature, this will be geared towards the technologist interested in privacy implications of the technology. The talk will start with a brief discussion over triangulation, registration, other potentials for data leaks. Search and seizure and related federal law as applicable to cell phones will be addressed. Other Federal and major state law that was drafted to or that could be interpreted to address cell phone privacy, covering major cases where these interpretations may be found. The talk will close with practices and areas that are currently unregulated or have no established precedent.

Christie started her career with a BSEE with an emphasis in digital communications from the University of Kansas. A 15 year enterprise network engineer career, largely in finance and manufacturing followed. After deciding to change fields, she started pursuing an old interest in communications security and privacy with a brief internship in hardware security. Finding entry options limited, she began pursuing the field from a new perspective, enrolling as JD candidate at Santa Clara Law. She now focuses on high technology law with an emphasis on privacy issues.
